PARLIAMENT- BIRTH TRAUMA APPG

ARLIAMENT: BIRTH TRAUMA APPG- BIRTH TRAUMA ENQUIRY- @lgbt_mummies GIVING EVIDENCE .

This afternoon was another trip into Parliament after being asked to give evidence into @theoclarkemp Birth Trauma enquiry for the Birth Trauma APPG being heard by Theo and @rosieduffieldmp_official and supported by @birth_trauma_association_uk . @lgbt_mummies were asked to give evidence in @ukparliament the enquiry alongside @dadmattersuk @p_m_h_support @drandymayers @mark_williams_bcah and Lucy. .

It was an incredibly emotive evening, hearing from Experts and sharing our lived experiences of birth trauma. and sharing our own experience of birth trauma and poor care, only highlighted how disparate inequitable the care LGBTQ+ people receive.

It was great to share the challenges we face as a community and also how we @lgbt_mummies and the other organizations and individuals felt, and our recommendations for better support, improving outcomes, and law reform, along with ensuring all partners are validated, represented & supported. . We welcome further discussions within the enquiry and want to ensure that LGBTQ+ experiences are listened to, heard and change is made to support better outcomes for our community across maternity and neonatal care.

As a community already having to overcome a multitude of barriers and implications, along with discrimination and poorer outcomes, we need the system to recognize us, make space for us, and HEAR us. We need a seat at the table to advise on what change WE need to keep us SAFE. . No human should go through what many in the Enquiry have been through- whether a woman or birthing person, a dad or other mother or parent. . Change is needed, and change is coming. .
